In Gloria Steinem’s Living Room
Economic Power Is Women’s Power: A Living Room Circle with Gloria Steinem
June 17, 2026 | New York City
When immigrant women gain financial independence, whole families and communities grow stronger.
Deepti Sharma hosted and moderated “Economic Power Is Women’s Power,” an intimate afternoon gathering presented in collaboration with Gloria’s Foundation and the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS). Gloria Steinem joined a select group of guests for a conversation on how immigrant women, often navigating language barriers, caregiving responsibilities, and cultural expectations, forge pathways to financial independence and self-determination.
More than a conversation, the afternoon was an invitation to help shape a collective vision for equity and inclusion, grounded in the lived experience of the women SACSS serves every day. SACSS has a special place in Deepti’s life: she was born at the hospital near the organization and grew up going to the temple down the street from her grandfather’s home.
